Top Nerd Places In Austin Texas

If you love being a nerd and you happen to be in Austin, Texas then you have some places that you will really need to check out while you’re there.

Austin, of course, is known for it’s music scene but there are some other really cool things you need to be aware of in Austin.

Dragon’s Lair

When I first arrived in Austin I met some new cool, nerds. Every single one of them mentioned that I needed to check out Dragon’s Lair. Dragon’s Lair is a very large comic book and gaming store in Austin. When you first walk in you notice that this comic book  store is massive compared to others that you may have been to in the past. About a third of the floor space is covered with tables for people who are playing a variety of games, from War Hammer to Magic The Gathering there is something here for everyone with a little nerd side to them.

After you’re done getting your comics you can have a very burger in the same parking lot over at Hopdoddy, provided you have a bunch of money left after your comic book buying spree…

Emerald Tavern Games & Cafe

If you want to play some games while you eat some food and drink some coffee Emerald Tavern Games & Cafe s a good place to do it. They have games that you can play for free when you purchase some of their food or drinks. I personally found the food a bit wanting for flavor and over priced but their drinks are good and it makes for a very fun afternoon with friends.

If you’re like me and don’t have a particular fondness for their food that is okay. Order a drink or two while you’re there and if you get hungry you can pop over to Slab BBQ and have some of the best BBQ that Austin has to offer.

Mother ship Games

I have only been into Mother ship once but they had a good selection of board games and I hear that you can play video games there with your friends for only 15 all day. I have heard some great stuff about this place which is why I included it in this article. I certainly recommend checking it out based on my first experience there but I wasn’t there long enough to really get into it unfortunately.
