Have you ever been to Las Vegas, Nevada?
Good old Sin City….
I had a great time when I ventures into Lass Vegas my first time. I have a great friend named Ron and he used to work for United Airlines. He decided one day that he wanted someone to go to Las Vegas with and asked if I’d like to join him. I was 17 at the time, I remember because I couldn’t gamble.
I have always looked older than I actually am so going into the casinos was no problem at all but I didn’t want to play anything, win and then not be able to keep anything I’d won because that would suck.
When we first got to the Las Vegas airport my friend asked me if I thought we should take a limo to the strip. I said hell yes! It turned out that the limos were provided by the hotels and they were free! At 17 it felt awesome riding through a city that is all about the glamour in a limo. I wanted to feel that way all of the time.
We didn’t plan to stay in Vegas very long before we headed back to Colorado. I actually don’t remember if we even stayed the night the or not. Ron really enjoyed going to a city in the morning and then taking the last fight back home. Frankly I thought it was very cool too.
So Ron and I spent the day checking out what billions of dollars and a complete lack of shame can buy a person. On this trip we did the Star Trek experience ride which I really enjoyed. I was never into Star Trek when I was younger. I’ve always been a nerd but I just couldn’t enjoy Star Trek. It was to much conversation and not enough action for my younger self.
When Ron first told me he wanted to do this Star Trek ride I didn’t really want to but after telling me I didn’t really have a choice in the matter I decided to go.
I am glad that I did too. The ride was one of the most fun things we did. I loved it! That ride made me view Star Trek a little differently too and I’ve been a minor fan ever since.
It’s weird what will change your mind about things.
Another thing that I loved while we were there was the ridiculously cheap food. I was too young to even be in the casinos so I didn’t risk asking for a drink for fear of being carded and kicked out of the casinos. So I stuck with water and soda. That had not been the car with the later trips that I’ve taken but that is a story for another time.
I enjoyed the themes of the casino’s too. I particularly liked the Venetian and the Bellagio for some reason. The sky painted on the ceilings made me laugh.
Ron and I were standing in one of the casinos when a wax statue of Harrison Ford was being wheeled by on a dolly. After some short discussion we thought it would be funny to open a triple x rated wax museum in Las Vegas.
I’m sure that Vegas is just about the only place on earth where it would be acceptable to do something like that. I wish I could say that I stayed in one of the posh hotels but like I said earlier I don’t think we stayed the night in Vegas.
It was an exhilarating experience to get to see and experience Vegas the first time. It’s the only place I’ve ever been whet you can walk down a busy main street and your hands full up with porn and your wallets empty for fun.
After I went back home I saw an interesting article that showed both the good side and the bad side of Vegas in just a few sentences.
It said that someone had hit a massive jackpot while I was there. It was one of the largest Jackpots that anyone had ever won there. Then along side that article was another. It said that an off duty police officer had been gambling, lost control of himself and net his house and everything he owned. He lost, and killed himself right there in the casino.
In Vegas you’ve got to only bet what you’re willing to lose. I’m not really a gambling fan these days. I know way too much about it and even when people win they will think they’re on a streak and lose evening they won and then some because they’re unwilling to just walk away.
Personally I love vs Vegas but be careful while you’re there.
You know I might even have to write another Las Vegas article tomorrow. This one will be about gambling specifically. I have some unique insight because I’ve owned part of a casino in the past.
See you tomorrow
